Frequently Asked Questions

Here are our most frequently asked questions.

Should I choose cremation or burial for my pet?

This is a personal decision. Many choose cremation to keep their pet’s ashes close, even if they move house. Keeping your pet’s ashes can enable you to have jewellery created which is a very personal keepsake. Other pet owners decide on cremation so that they can scatter their pet’s ashes at their favourite places.

What is the difference between private and communal cremation?

In a private cremation, your pet is cremated alone. In a communal cremation, a small number of pets are cremated together. At Tawel we are keen to provide this alternative choice to pet owners to ensure that we can provide personal tailored after life care to owners in all circumstances.

What do you do with ashes from a communal cremation?

At Tawel, we have been given a designated licence that allows us to scatter ashes from communal cremations in our private woodland, that is bluebell covered in the months that they flower. We believe we are the only facility in Wales with such a licence and we feel passionately that the ashes of pet’s should not be sent to landfill.

How long will it take to receive my pet’s ashes?

At Tawel we aim to return ashes to owners within 2-3 days as standard. A same day service is available, subject to an additional charge.

How do I know I’ll receive the correct ashes?

Tawel is a family run and independent pet crematorium. We use a robust identification system to ensure that pet’s are identified throughout the entirety of time they spend with us. You can be assured as pet owners ourselves we care and treat your pet as if it was our own.

How will I receive my pet’s ashes back after my pet’s cremation?

This depends on what you plan to do with your pet’s ashes. At Tawel we offer a range of receptacles to ensure owners can choose the option that’s right for them. A scatter tube is included in the price of a private cremation, but if a more personalised option is desired such as an inscribed wooden casket, an attractive urn, or willow basket for example then these are available and are priced separately.

Can I be present during my pet’s cremation?

We allow owners and families to visit our facility and have use of our chapel of rest area whereby you can spend time to say a final goodbye to your pet. Owners can also be present for their pet’s cremation although we do advise that up to four hours can be required.

Can I burry my pet’s ashes?

Yes; this is possible and it’s a lovely idea to grow new life from ashes, such as with a flowering plant, or tree. At Tawel we advise on the use of return to nature soil which helps to reduce toxic sodium levels and neutralize high pH while releasing nutrients back into the soil, allowing plant life to flourish. Tawel is a proud supplier of this, which is available to purchase.

What if my pet is euthanised at home? What if my pet dies at the vet’s? Can you help?

As a small and family run facility we are able to offer a level of flexibility, whatever your circumstances. Should you face your pet’s euthanasia at home, we are able to collect your pet from your home address. Similarly we can collect your pet from your veterinary practice. Owners can also bring their pet directly to us should they wish to; we have a peaceful chapel of rest area where final goodbyes and quiet times of reflection are supported.

My vet uses another Pet crematorium. Can I still choose Tawel?

Yes; the choice for your pet’s after life care is entirely yours to make. If you decide that you would like a local provision, which is personal and independently run, then you can let your veterinary practice know that you have made your own arrangements.
